ईएनटी सर्जन और आई एम ए गुडगांव के अध्यक्ष डॉ एनपीएस वर्मा ने बताया की दिमाग का 90% विकास पहले 5 वर्षों में हो जाता है। इसलिए जरूरी है कि जो बच्चे सुन नहीं सकते उनकी पहचान जल्दी की जाए और सुनाई की मशीन या कोकलियर इंप्लांट्स के जरिए उनका इलाज किया जाए ताकि यह बच्चे साधारण जीवन व्यतीत कर सकें l
ईएनटी सर्जन, आई एम ए गुडगांव की सचिव डॉ सारिका वर्मा ने बताया कि वह नेशनल इनीशिएटिव फॉर सेफ साउंड की राष्ट्रीय कन्वीनर हैं और कई वर्षों से नवजात शिशु के बहरेपन की समय पर पहचान के लिए काम कर रही है l
उन्होंने बताया कि हर नवजात शिशु की सुनाई की जांच (ओ ए इ) पहले महीने में हो जाने चाहिए l जिन बच्चे की जांच में कोई कमी हो उनकी 3 महीने पर दोबारा जांच की जाती है और बेरा टेस्ट से पक्का हो जाए की बच्चे की सुनाई में कमी है तो 6 महीने से पहले सुनने की मशीन लग जानी चाहिए l
जो बच्चे बहुत ज्यादा बहरे हो उनको ऑपरेशन कर कोकलियर इंप्लांट्स भी लगाया जा सकता है l डॉ अजय अरोरा वरिष्ठ बाल चिकित्सा ने कहा कोकलियर इंप्लांट्स के लिए अस्पतालों में बैंकों से लोन का भी प्रावधान किया गया है l जो बच्चे कमजोर आर्थिक वर्ग से हैं उन्हें गुडगांव डिस्ट्रिक्ट प्रशासन फ्री सुनाई की मशीन और कोकलियर इंप्लांट भी लगवाता है l
डॉ अभिषेक गोयल बाल चिकित्सा ने कहा समय पर बच्चे को सही इलाज और स्पीच थेरेपी मिले तो यह बच्चे साधारण बच्चों की तरह साधारण स्कूल में जा सकते हैं और नौकरी भी कर सकते हैंl जरूरी है कि इलाज 2-5 वर्ष की आयु से पहले किया जाए l
डॉ सारिका ने कहा भारत में 1000 नवजात शिशु में 3 बच्चे बहरे पैदा होते हैं और माता पिता आंगनवाड़ी कार्यकर्ता नर्स डॉक्टर और पूरे समाज की जिम्मेदारी है इन बच्चों को जल्दी पहचान कर समय पर इलाज शुरू किया जाए l जो बच्चे 5 साल के ऊपर है उनको साइन लैंग्वेज द्वारा पढ़ाई की जाती है और आईटीआई के जरिए ट्रेनिंग देकर नौकरी करने लायक बनाया जा सकता है l
विश्व श्रवण दिवस पर सभी लोगों से विनती है बहरापन ऐसी विकलांगता है जो दिखाई नहीं देती, तो बहरेपन को जल्द पहचानने की कोशिश की जाए ताकि यह बच्चे समाज का साधारण अंग बन सकते हैं l

Therefore, it is important that children who are hearing impaired are identified early and treated with hearing aids or cochlear implants so that these children can lead a normal life.
Dr. Sarika Verma, Secretary, ENT Surgeon, IMA Gurgaon said that she is the national convener of National Initiative for Safe Sound and has been working for the timely identification of newborn deafness for many years.
He told that every new born baby should be tested for hearing (OAE) in the first month. Those children who have any deficiency in the test, they are tested again at 3 months and the Bera test is done to confirm the hearing of the child. If there is a deficiency then a hearing aid should be installed before 6 months.
Cochlear implants can also be installed in children who are very deaf. Dr. Ajay Arora, Senior Pediatrician, said that for cochlear implants, there is a provision of loan from banks in hospitals. The district administration also provides free hearing aids and cochlear implants.
Dr. Abhishek Goyal Paediatrics said that if the child gets the right treatment and speech therapy on time then these children can go to normal school like normal children and can also do job. It is necessary that the treatment should be done before the age of 2-5 years. l
Dr. Sarika said that out of 1000 newborns in India, 3 children are born deaf and it is the responsibility of parents, Anganwadi workers, nurses, doctors and the whole society to identify these children early and start timely treatment. Study is done through sign language and can be made employable by giving training through ITI.
On World Hearing Day, it is requested to all the people that deafness is such a disability which is not visible, so efforts should be made to identify deafness early so that these children can become a normal part of the society.
