केंद्रीय मंत्री ने कहा कि दिल्ली के जंतर मंतर पर हुए धरने पर भी पहुंचे थे और उन्होंने लोगी अहीर रेजिमेंट की मांग का समर्थन किया था। राम ने कहा कि उनके पिता ने भी संसद में अहीर रेजिमेंट की मांग उठाई थी और आज भी भी इस मांग पर अपना समर्थन दे रहे हैं।
इस अवसर पर केंद्रीय मंत्री ने पूर्व रक्षा मंत्रियों को लिखे गए पत्रों का हवाला देते हुए बताया कि उन्होंने अहीर रेजिमेंट की मांग को लेकर तत्कालीन रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह सहित निर्मला सीतारमण को भी इस संबंध में पत्र लिखे थे।
केंद्रीय मंत्री ने कहा कि देश की आजादी के बाद भी जाति के नाम से कुछ रेजिमेंट का गठन हुआ है इस बारे में भी जानकारी प्राप्त कर रहे हैं और उन्होंने सरकार को यह भी सुझाव दिया है कि अगर जाति के नाम से रेजिमेंट मनाने में अड़चन है तो अहिर वालों के नाम से रेजिमेंट का गठन किया जाए।
केंद्रीय मंत्री ने कहा कि देश की रक्षा करने में सर्व समाज के लोगों ने अपना बलिदान दिया है जिनमें अहिर भी शामिल है। उन्होंने कहा रेजांगला का इतिहास आज भी वीरगाथा को गाता है।
केंद्रीय मंत्री ने कहा कि हमने अंग्रेजों की हुकूमत के विरोध में विद्रोह कर देश की आजादी में योगदान दिया था । उनका की हो सकता है आज हमें उसकी ही सजा मिल रही हो लेकिन देश के प्रति वफादारी हमारे खून में है।
उन्होंने कहा कि अंग्रेजों से विद्रोह करने की सजा हमें मिल रही है लेकिन अंग्रेजों की हां करने वालों को इनाम भी मिले हैं।
राव ने कहा कि लड़ाई लंबी है लेकिन इसका फायदा आने वाली पीढ़ियों को मिलेगा । उन्होंने कहा कि वे सरकार के सामने यहां के लोगों की आवाज को उठाते रहेंगे।
